(Dr. Clayton Lawrence, founder and CEO, shares his thoughts in a weekly column focused on community wellness and inspiring others.)
Holiday break soon will be upon us and, with that, comes the dreaded New Year’s Resolution. While some people have given up on the tradition of setting goals throughout the year to eliminate the risk of failure, we think that giving oneself something to reach for is a great way to kick off a new year. But more about that later – the truth is, every day presents an opportunity to be a better version of ourselves than yesterday! While connecting with friends and family over the next few weeks, take some time to consider the things you could do a little more (and less) of. Here are a few to get you started:
Do try new foods.
Don’t skip the morning run.
Do hug a little longer.
Do be present.
Don’t expect presents.
Do give of yourself.
Don’t forget to breathe.
Do visit more often.
Don’t forget about the less fortunate.
Do choose grilled over fried.
Don’t forget to eat your fruits and veggies.
Do keep things simple.
Don’t save the fine china – use it!
Do make sleep a priority.
Don’t let your fears get in the way.
Do consider the impact of your words.
Don’t let another year go by without contacting that certain someone.
Don’t skip dessert.
Do remember that for every action, there is a reaction.
Don’t give up.
Do meditate – even a few minutes can have a positive impact.
Don’t forget to smile.
Do be a positive example.
